Strength of Mind Fitness

Intelligent Fitness Coaching for Ex-Military Dads. By Veterans, For Veterans.

Built on IQ and EQ – not beastings, vanity or bro science. Get your fitness back without getting broken.

Does This Sound Familiar?

When you were serving, you were fit. But you didn’t have to think about it. Programmed PT was just a part of life.

Now, you’re on civvy street. And there’s no PTI standing over you, telling you what to do. You try to train like you used to, but you’re not 25 any more, and beasting yourself just leaves you burnt out and broken.

Plus, you’ve got the double demands of a career and a family to manage. Time is a scarce and precious resource. You tell yourself you’ll get a grip on your phys when… But that moment never arrives.

I know what it’s like to make the transition from military to civvy life. I know what it’s like to juggle a career alongside family life. Being fit was part of your identity, but it’s no longer part of your job description. Remember how it felt to be fit, strong and capable?

You can feel like that again. But you can’t apply the same methods you used when you were serving. Your circumstances and your body have both changed.

You need intelligent programming that aligns with your mindset and focuses on progress – not on making your eyes bleed.

I'm Dan - Fitness Coach, Dad of 3, and Former Military Officer

I served for 17 years as an officer in the military, both as a regular and a reservist. I held leadership roles in Commando Forces, Airborne Forces and Special Mission Units. When I left, I joined the corporate world, working for a Big 4 Consultancy.

I understand the difficulties created by transitioning from the military. Your mindset is the same, but your body isn’t. You still want to push yourself but your body doesn’t cooperate. You want to get back to who you were, but you don’t know how.

I’ve faced these exact problems myself: trying to forge a new career, support my family and still be the fit, strong leader I once was. What I’ve learned is that it is possible to be as fit as I was when I was serving, if not fitter. But getting there requires a different approach.

You need to know when to hit the rev limiter and when to coast. And with no PTI telling you what to do, it can be hard to know where to start. I’ve spent over six years refining my approach to fitness, which now forms the foundation of my coaching. The approach that has led me to:

  • Run 3 miles in under 20 minutes.
  • Deadlift more than twice my bodyweight.
  • Complete a 100 mile yomp, carrying an average of 70lbs, in under 48 hours.

I help ex-military dads like you rebuild strength, energy, and confidence through intelligent coaching that fits real life, not social media fantasy. No empty phrases, no ego, no shaming – just tactics, strategies and support that actually work. And a bit of banter.

What Makes This Different: IQ and EQ

Designed for ex-military dads.
You’re not starting from zero, you’re rebuilding from experience. We skip the basics and build a plan that respects what you already know, and provides what you need now.

Focused on outcomes that matter.
I don’t judge effectiveness on how knackered you are after a training session. I want you to be energised for the things that truly matter in your life; not exhausted and sore.

Coaching that meets you on your level.
Most people haven’t served, so they don’t understand your mindset or your experience. As a veteran myself, I understand where you are coming from.

Built for brains, not just biceps.
This isn’t a cut-and-paste plan or a gym-bro bootcamp. It’s intelligent programming rooted in deep thinking.

No shouting, no shaming.
You’re not lazy; your life is complex. I’ll give you accountability, honesty, and support without the ego.

My Principles

  1. Embrace trade-offs. If you try to include everything all at once, you’ll make no progress at all. Progress requires strategic compromise.
  2. Movement patterns, not muscle groups. This approach packs a punch: it is not only more time efficient, it is more functional, which leads to higher real-world performance.
  3. Heart and lungs, not just pecs and guns. Too many coaches are solely focused on ‘transformation’ – how you look, not how you perform. It’s no good having big guns if you get out of breath climbing the stairs.
  4. Training sessions, not workouts. A workout is a standalone exercise period. A training session is part of a broader training programme, where each step leads you closer to your goals.
  5. Measure what matters. We focus on the metrics that matter. Not how exhausted you feel, but are you stronger, faster, leaner and more able to perform when it matters.
  6. Don’t just go through the motions. Training with intention and correct technique is what leads to progress. Poor technique is not only a waste of time, it leads to injuries.
  7. Intentional discomfort. Being comfortable with discomfort is a superpower that will improve all areas of your life. We programme intentional discomfort into your training.
  8. Remember, there’s more to life. Training should enhance your life, not take it over. We train not for the sake of it, but because we want to be better dads, partners and leaders.

Why Can't I Just Buy?

If you’re keen to get started, that’s great! So, why would I not want to capitalise on your enthusiasm and let you sign up right now?

Because coaching is a relationship. And for coaching to be effective, that relationship needs to be built on mutual trust and understanding. Even though we share similar backgrounds, we may not be the best fit for each other. And the only way to find out, is to have a conversation.

If you’re keen to get going, you can book a free consultation call by clicking the button below. We’ll get to know each other, discuss your goals, your current fitness level and work out what’s best for you. Most importantly, I need to understand what drives you. If everything aligns, you can sign up during the call and be on your way in no time.

No hard sell, and no pressure. Just an honest chat with a wet/brew (and maybe a few dits) about where you’re at and what’s possible.
